Your Questions About Niche Marketing Ideas

Richard asks…
feedback on business idea?
I currently own a landscape design/maintenance business and am looking for a better niche during these hard times. I have developed an idea and am looking for some feedback on the idea. ( I am not looking for new ideas, just feedback). I want to appeal to those in downtown and more historical urban settings, usually with very minimal yard space. Many of my clients live in lofts and have roof top gardens rather than usual yards. I create retreats geared to the individual clients personality and needs. I also create spaces in small areas that clients never thought was possible. Another unique thing that I do is bring the inside out (living spaces, outdoor kitchens, sometimes outdoor showers) and the outside in (water features, plant displays, green environments, and fresh floral arrangements). So I would love to gather some feedback on market acceptance, and what people think of my ideas. My goal of this is to get people to spend time in their ‘space’. Considering it is hard for most of us to go out and do things all the time in this economy, I want people to feel relaxed and away from their everyday stressful lives in their own home, yard, roof, or loft patio, without having to leave and go elsewhere to receive this enjoyment
The reason for me wanting some feedback is I would like to get an additional loan for advertising and marketing purposes, so I need a little bit of research to back me up, any feedback is welcome. Thank you.

Colin answers:
I understand 200% what you want to do.
YOU won’t need any advertising.
Try this instead–
Since you are in “beta” stage [testing it out]
find 3-5 people who are willing to write a
great testimonial for you………for 1 mo
worth of work……….and you do their
“stuff” for free for.
Take pics of before and after.
And do more research as to property value
increases, health consequences, fruits
and veggies grown, rats who no longer have
a place to hide, a thing that now eats
carbon dioxide and puts out oxygen [day time]
etc.
Super idea.
Will guide u further if you like

Help with starting a business in any niche (legal requirements)?
Hello,
I am a 16 year old male looking into starting my own business, preferably clothing ranges. I have already got research done for products i.e. T-shirts and designs and have seen several suitable companies which will print my products, however i am slightly stumped when it comes down to the legal sides of things. I am still in school (Will be leaving in 12 days) and currently studying business and hopefully in college too.
The main question i would like to ask is how old do i have to be to set up a business in the clothing market? How would i set up my bank accounts, as i do not know if i am old enough? I know about book keeping, account keeping etc as i learnt it in my spare time, i just have no idea on some legal requirements.
If anyone can answer them questions and perhaps add more legal requirements if you know of any (Uk citizen) i would appretiate it alot! Thankyou for your time!

Colin answers:
The only age requirement I’m aware of that’s relevant here is to be a director you’d have to be 16. You only need one bank account. In theory you could deal in cash, or out of a personal account, depending on what your accounting skills are like. If a bank won’t give you a business account just get another current account and trade from that.
Your age could be a problem in getting work, as you’re going to be seen as wet behind the ears. Hopefully your designs will speak for themselves however.
Additionally think about the following:
Business medium – sole trader/partnership or company – you should know all about this though
Do you need some agreement with business partners?
Intellectual Property – how are you going to protect your designs? (rely on copyright or register design rights?)/are you infringing anyone else’s rights?
Finance – is someone financing you to start? What protection do they want – equity or debt?
Employment issues – are you going to employ anyone else?
Liability insurance – do you need to protect yourself from claims by the public/consumers?

Choosing a Business Name?
I’m looking at opening a retail merchandise business where I can sell different types of ceramic and glass figurines, ceramic pots, wall mirrors, candles and candle holders, fountains, a variety of objects like that. The merchandise I’m looking at selling can be used for both gift giving as well as on a personal basis. I’m not certain which niche of the market I’m trying to target. I have several ideas floating around. I’m trying to come up with a catchy business name; a name that will be both identified on my store front and webpage, a name that is primarily made up of one word, a name that does not identify with my own but stands alone. A name that is bold and has enough power and zest to stand out to the public eye. I would appreciate any and all suggestions. I don’t know why I am having such a hard time because I have carefully thought out all aspects. It could be that I just want everything to be perfect.

George asks…
How’s this eBay business idea?
I know it’s important to do business where you have an interest and passion, but also to make sure you find your niche market…
Now I know not every human wants to watch classic NBA games, but I was wondering, since I’m a huge NBA fan (and I’m sure there are others out there), I was thinking of putting my NBA game collection on DVDs (individual games) and selling them on eBay. This is for everyone who enjoyed the entertainment from basketball in the 1990s and so far this decade.
I have recorded a lot of games and I feel there might be people out there who would like to relive the exciting moments of these great games. I can simply record them from VHS to DVD with great quality.
I don’t really see any items on this…Thanks in advance for your thoughts and insight! I’m new to selling ![]()
Copyright laws? I haven’t changed anything on the game footage though. It’s all what was on TV. I’ve bought NBA DVDs before of games, but there was so few of them to find. I’m sure there are people out there who are dieing to watch games of Jordan, Ewing, etc again.

Colin answers:
Ebay is great. I’ve ordered several things.
I’ve done the ‘BUY NOW’ and the auction.
I’ve seen many things for sale on there that I never would have thought to sell. But they sell.
It’s pretty easy to get it going: Register, take picture of item…..
I know you’re talking about selling – but to anybody buying you can get ripped off.

Colin answers:
When you say you have recorded a lot of games I assume you recorded them from TV broadcasts.
Are you aware that these broadcasts are copyrighted? This means that any recordings you have made are for your private personal use only and cannot be sold without permission of the copyright holders?
Beware of legal complications!
